I love the art style in this. It's very cool.

This hurts me. Just because of the characters.

Pico will grow up with PTSD and always have to carry a weapon because of paranoia.
Nene will forever live with trauma and fear, so much so that she hurts herself.
Darnell, although not there that day, would live with not being there to protect his friends.
Cyclops, Alucard, and Hanzou would either be dead, in jail, or living with the fact they murdered people.
And Cassandra has 4 ways of how she'd end up. She'll either be put in prison for the rest of her life, studied and tortured by scientists until she either dies or is no longer useful, killed by the police, or is straight up dead after being shot at.

And with these guys being some of my comfort characters, it hurts. But amazing art.

Yes, that's one of the reasons why I adore the series for more than a decade, and I was geniunely happy to know that now it has a more solid fandom, full of both young spirits and veteran enthusiasts. Even though it was just a satire and a product of it's time, Pico's school always had a potential for a deeper, darker and thrilling story due to it's cast and premise.
Therefore, it's not just lives of those teens are doomed, but potentially lives of a whole humanity as well. Even If Cassandra will be captured and tortured at some kind of shady CIA laboratory, other penilians would stop at nothing to try and conquer the world again, even if they wouldn't bother to avenge her personally. It can be curious to imagine that every single character might have to deal with the consequences of an upcoming catastrophe, of course if they would manage to survive the main events...

This reminds me of that one scene with the android Bishop in Aliens.
